How do I get scheduled?
Call (800) 966-3844 or (707) 437-2273 to make your reservation and arrange payment. Reservations are held for 5 days while we wait for your payment. We accept cashiers checks, money order, Visa and Master Card. Reservations not paid within five days will be assigned to another student. We suggest... Give us a call, book your spot, send your payment, and secure your place in class.

Can I be put on a waiting (stand-by) list to get into an earlier class?
Yes, of course. To be placed on the wait-list you must be booked into an available class. Once you are booked into a class, you can be placed on the wait-list. The wait-list goes in order of first come first serve. Once you are on a wait-list for a specific class, you may pop into the class to see if there is a no-show. If there are no shows, depending on the order you signed up, you may get into that class. No-shows do occur and people on the wait-list do often get in.

What equipment do I need for the classroom?    
For the classroom session you will need to bring:

• Your automobile drivers license (any current license, any state) OR, your DMV learner's permit OR, your Driver Education Certificate.

• A pen and glasses (if you need them for viewing slides, video monitors, and/or paperwork.)

• If you are under 18 years old, you will also bring a parent or legal guardian at the first class to sign necessary paperwork.

Does California Rider Education conduct on an MSF approved site?
California Rider Education conducts the California State program for beginning and experienced riders. We follow the Motorcycle Safety Foundation guidelines for California.

Do I have to be a certain height?
We have no minimum height restrictions. Riders will be required to touch both feet to the ground while straddling the motorcycle. We have motorcycles with low seats suitable for people who need to be closer to the ground.

If I change my mind, can I get my money back?
California Rider Education enrollment fees are non-refundable for any reason. You can drop your enrollment in a class and re-schedule for up to six months, and up to 5 business days before your class start date. Last minute re-schedules are subject to a $50 rebooking fee.

What happens if I'm late or don't show for a class?
Our policy on late arrivals is no late entrances period. Students arriving late to the first class, may rebook for a later class and will pay a $50 rebooking fee. All other classes are the same, no late grace period. If you are even 1 minute late you will be given a return receipt which will give you the opportunity to return at your own convince.

No-Shows will pay full tuition (no refunds).

Will I have to go to DMV for my license after I pass?

Yes, you must obtain your own license through the Department of Motor Vehicles. Upon succesful completion of your class, you will be mailed a DL389 document. (We are required by law to MAIL the DL389 form to you. That is the only way you may receive it. Be sure your address is current on the application you fill out the first night of class.) When presented to the DMV, the DL389 form will waive the riding portion of your motorcycle license test. The DL389 form will be mailed to you within ten working days of the last day of class. The DL389 form may take as long as fourteen days to reach you after the end of your class. Schedule your appointment with the DMV accordingly. (At least 14 days after the end of your class.) To issue a motorcycle license, The State of Califorinia requires successful completion of the State auto and motorcycle written tests. California Rider Education is a California State sub-contracted motorcycle education training center, recognized by the DMV for our teaching quality and dedication to safety.

Do some companies reimburse you for classes?
Yes, some dealerships and bike manufacturers may offer you a rebate program to encourage you to take the safety course. Once you complete our course, you are issued a completion card and a DL 389. Copies of your completion card should serves as significant proof of passing the class.

When are your classes?
Our classes are held at the College of Alameda, 555 Atlantic Ave. We have classes starting every week. The best way to find out classes available is to call the office. Classes are very dynamic and the number of people in them fluctuates all the time.

What does it cost?
$250 for 21 and over and $150 for under 21. We do require payment to hold your slot at time of enrollment.

• Sturdy footwear above the ankle (boots or high top shoes, no canvas style high top)
• Full-fingered leather gloves
• Sturdy clothing
• Appropriate long-sleeved jackets
• Long-legged and durable trousers (jeans without holes in the knees or other places work well)
• You may want to bring rain gear (If it rains, we ride as long at it is still safe)

• Be in good health
• Be able to ride a bicycle
• Understand basic written and oral English.

Can I ride my own bike (or scooter)?
For the Basic Course, we prefer the following:

• Students train on the motorcycles we provide for you.

• If you use your own motorcycle or scooter in the basic course you must follow these limitations:

• We require proof of current insurance for the Motorcycle or Scooter.

• There is a limit on engine size of 350 CC or LESS. (Experienced Rider Course engine size is not limited to 350CC)

• The Motorcycle or Scooter MUST be inspected by one of our instructors. The instructor has final say over safety of the Motorcycle or Scooter.

For the Experienced Rider Course:

• You must ride your own motorcycle. (If you have ridden at least 3000 recent miles on your bike.)

What about conflicts in my schedule?
If you have time conflicts you must phone the office and leave a message on the machine or with the person booking classes. You must call and change your class date 5 business days before the start of you class or you will be charged a $50 rebooking fee.

What's the pass rate?
Ca.R.E. has a 90% pass rate with our students. Not everyone completes the course the first time. You may repeat the course (one time) at no additional charge only if you don't pass or are asked to leave.

Can I take the course with an out of state license?
Yes. As long as your license is valid, you may take our course. With an out of state driver's license, the DMV will ask you to take a shortened version of the driving test.

How about discounts on insurance?
Many agents will offer a discounts for successful completion of our Basic Riders Course or our Experienced Rider Course. Your Completion card will serve as proof of completion.
